Biography

Carye Duffin joined CIEE in 1999 and currently serves as Senior Vice President of External Affairs, where she leads the organization’s newest division. In this role, she directs CIEE’s local, national, and global engagement strategy, advancing awareness of the transformative impact of international exchange. She also elevates CIEE’s thought leadership around BridgeUSA programs, championing the critical role of international exchange in strengthening American public diplomacy, national security, and economic growth.

Carye oversees both Government Affairs and Advocacy and Funded Initiatives, driving strategic partnerships and policy engagement that expand access to international education. She has also served as Chair of the Coalition of American Public Diplomacy and Leadership (CAPDL) since January 2025, where she leads efforts to strengthen and expand BridgeUSA programs by educating stakeholders and cultivating a global network of advocates advancing best practices in international exchange.

With more than 26 years of leadership experience at CIEE, Carye has held a range of senior management roles spanning crisis management, operations, human resources, and revenue growth. Most recently, as Senior Vice President of International Exchange Programs, she led one of the organization’s key divisions. During her tenure, she successfully guided the exchange portfolio through a period of significant disruption and recovery, shaping its post-pandemic strategy and positioning it for renewed growth and impact.

Carye earned an undergraduate degree in psychology from Boston University and a master’s in education from the University of Pennsylvania. She has held multiple leadership roles within WYSE Travel Confederation (WYSETC), including Board Member and Chairperson of the WYSE Work Abroad Association (2010–2016) and Chairperson of the Cultural Exchange Panel and Board Member of the WYSE Travel Confederation (2016–2024). Based in Houston, Texas, she lives with her husband, their two sons, and their dog, Dakota.
