Frank Ziegele – Authentic Universities – Effective university identities in times of transformation
Around the world, university systems are currently undergoing massive changes as long-held certainties begin to unravel. What must universities do to remain or become relevant and viable for the future? They should be authentic by developing a coherent identity that provides both internal and external orientation while setting them apart from other universities. Scenarios related to the current transformations exemplify diverse profiles of authentic universities, leading to higher education systems with strong horizontal differentiation.
Maria Sakarias – Human-Centred Innovation: Mondo’s Work at the Intersection of Technology, Education and Global Justice
Estonia has shown what is possible when a country takes digital innovation seriously. Mondo’s work starts from the next question: who is included once the tool is built, and who may still be left behind? This talk looks at the human side of technology through Mondo’s work globally and in Estonia with teachers, young people, refugees and partner communities. We see that digital skills are about technical competence insomuch as critical thinking, media literacy, safety, civic participation and self-confidence. Drawing on Mondo’s experience in education, humanitarian work and international cooperation, the talk asks how global internships and international partnerships can move beyond innovation for its own sake – towards work that is ethical, localized and helping to alleviate inequalities, not increase them.
