Biography
Simon Roy leads the Higher Education Policy Team in the OECD’s Directorate for Education and Skills. The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), an international organisation with currently 38 member countries, works closely with policy makers, stakeholders and citizens to establish evidence-based international standards and to find solutions to social, economic and environmental challenges.
OECD work on higher education policy encompasses a wide range of topics, including efforts to improve the alignment of education with evolving skills needs, the implications of artificial intelligence for higher education policy, policies to support widened access and student success in postsecondary learning, and approaches to managing financial and human resources in national higher education systems. Of particular relevance to the conference agenda, ongoing projects include analysis of policies to encourage more people to pursue careers related to science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM), efforts to promote the development and uptake of micro-credentials to support advanced upskilling and reskilling for adults and approaches to promoting transnational collaboration between higher education institutions.
Prior to joining the OECD in 2017, Simon worked for seven years on higher education policy issues at the European Commission, the civil service of the European Union.
